Using the classroom activities in this kit, students will discover how land use influences water quality and how macroinvertebrate sampling can be used to measure water quality. Each team of students receives a deck of cards representing a sample of macroinvertebrates from one of three sites, a poster-sized sorting sheet, and a map. Students then sort the cards onto the sorting sheet and determine water quality at their site by observing the distribution of macroinvertebrates in their sample. This interdisciplinary kit includes resources for incorporating math, public speaking, writing, and art activities in the study as well. Kit includes cards and sorting sheets for six teams, 18” x 24” classroom poster, manual, and instructions (English and Spanish). For grades K through 8.
